Sky News is a British 24-hour television news channel. It is part of the BSkyB group of channels, which in its turn is a part of Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation. The channel broadcasts in digital format via a network of satellite receivers and is one of the three BSkyB channels available in the Freeview[en] broadcasting system. Sky News' audience is predominantly in the UK, but also in other parts of the world where the channel can be received (including in international hotel chains). The audience is estimated at 150 million people worldwide. Sky News began broadcasting in February 1989, becoming Britain's first 24-hour news channel. In May 2010, the channel became the first news channel in the UK to broadcast in high definition television (HD). The headquarters and the central studio of the channel are in London.
